Itinerary & Trip Details

Day 1: Arrival in Slovenia

Arrival in Slovenia

Arrival in Ljubljana airport, Slovenia’s capital. Pickup and transfer to the hotel and spend the day exploring the charming old town by Ljubljanica river with its famous bridges and rich medieval architecture.

Day 2: Triglav National Park

Triglav National Park

After Breakfast we will drive into the Julian Alps, Slovenia’s section of the Alps mountain range. Stop at stunning Lake Bled then hike to a breathtaking viewpoint over the lake, afterwards drive into Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park, visit Bohinj Lake, the largest lake in Slovenia then take a scenic cable car ride to the top of Mount Vogel for amazing panoramic views over Lake Bohinj and Triglav National park and spend the night on the top in a Mountain Hut.

Day 3: The Triple Border

The Triple Border

Breakfast then drive to the small town of Kranjska Gora and hike to Tromeja aka ‘Triple Border’ at which the boundaries of Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet, enjoy the amazing views from the top then make our way back to the car have lunch in town, visit Jasna Lakes then drive through a scenic mountain pass to Soca valley and the beautiful alpine town of Bovec.

Day 4: Alpine Adventure

Alpine Adventure

Being the adventure hub of Slovenia, Bovec offers endless amount of adventurous activities in the Julian Alps. Our picked adventure of the day is Canyoning, an adventurous sport that combines hiking, scrambling, swimming, abseiling, sliding into waterfalls and jumping into water pools all in in one amazing adventure. We can also opt to try Skydiving or Paragliding or any other adventure in this magical alpine town.

Day 5: Into Croatia

Into Croatia

Today we drive into Croatia, our next destination on our Balkans Trail journey. First we will drive across a beautiful mountain pass to visit the stunning Lake Predil for a quick swim then drive to Zagreb the capital of Croatia.

Day 6: Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice Lakes National Park

Breakfast then drive to Plitvice Lakes National Park, where we are going to spend our day hiking along the wooden paths and bridges of Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s most beautiful national park. We will pass by a series of 16 emerald green and opal blue travertine lakes, more than 90 waterfalls and numerous caves. Afterwards we will drive to Split by Croatia’s Adriatic Coast.

Day 7: Cetina Adventure

Cetina Adventure

Breakfast then drive to the beautiful Cetina River for a canyoning adventure in the Dinaric Mountains along Cetina river canyon. Canyoning is one of the most adventurous alpine activities that combines hiking, scrambling, swimming, abseiling, sliding into waterfalls and jumping into water pools all in in one amazing adventure. Afterwards we will drive to visit the unique site known as the Eye of the Earth, it is a very deep spring that is the source of the Cetina River, then drive back to Split.

Day 8: The Adriatic Sea

The Adriatic Sea

Breakfast then start to explore the beautiful Adriatic town of Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. Afterwards we will sail to the beautiful island of Hvar and explore its pretty old town, go for a short hike to Hvar fortress for an amazing panoramic view over the island and the Adriatic. Afterwards we can relax by one of Hvar’s beautiful beaches then sail back to Split.

Day 9: Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia & Herzegovina

Breakfast then drive into Bosnia & Herzegovina to visit Mostar, the cultural and economic center of the country. The town is over five centuries old and situated between high mountains divided by the Neretva River. The Old Bridge of Mostar (Stari Most) is one of the top highlights of our tour, which was originally built in 1566 during the rule of the Ottoman Empire, destroyed during the war in 1993 but rebuilt in 2004 in its original form. In the afternoon we will drive to the stunning Kravice waterfalls on the Trebizat river for a refreshing swim then drive back into Croatia to Dubrovnik for overnight

Day 10: Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik which is also known as ‘The Pearl of the Adriatic’ is considered to be one the most beautiful towns in the world. Its well-preserved old town is stuffed with many historic features such as ancient city walls, cobblestone streets, magnificent palaces and stunning churches. We will spend the day exploring the old town or opt for one of the beaches on the Adriatic coast.

Day 11: Kotor Bay

Kotor Bay

Today we move to our fourth country on our adventure in the Balkans by driving to Kotor in Montenegro. After settling in our accommodation, we will hop on a speed boat to explore the amazing beaches and caves of Kotor Bay. First we stop at ‘Our Lady of the Rocks’ island to visit its small church then continue sailing to the Blue Cave, where we can jump for a swim in its crystal-clear waters then we continue to one of the beaches where we can relax by the Adriatic then sail back to town. Lunch in town then we can opt to hike to the top of the fortress for an amazing view over Kotor bay and the old town which is considered to be one of the best-preserved medieval walled towns in the entire Mediterranean.

Day 12: Durmitor National Park

Durmitor National Park

Breakfast then drive to the town of Zabljak in the heart of Durmitor National park and home of Tara Canyon, Europe’s deepest canyon. We will go for a couple of short hikes to explore the most beautiful sections of the national park such as the Black Lake and Mt. Cuervac with its breathtaking panoramic views over the whole national park.

Day 13: Tara River Canyon

Breakfast then continue to explore Durmitor National Park but from a different perspective as we go for an exciting white water rafting adventure along the rapids of Tara river followed by a thrilling zipline ride across Tara canyon. Afterwards we will drive across the mountains of Montenegro and into Kosovo to the town of Peja for overnight.

Day 14: Kosovo

Kosovo

Early morning breakfast then start exploring Kosovo’s wild nature. First we will venture into the marvelous Rugova canyon to explore its unique nature and amazing panoramas afterwards we will visit the picturesque town of Prizren, have lunch then drive to Valbona in Albania, our sixth and final destination on our epic adventure in the Balkans.

Day 15: The Albanian Alps

The Albanian Alps

The hike from Valbona to Theth is not only Albania’s best hike but it’s also one of Europe’s most beautiful hikes. We will hike to Valbona Pass which is the most beautiful part of the trail. We start along the riverbed from Valbona village (995m) to Rrogam village (1127m) then we begin our ascent up Valbona pass (1759m). At the top we will be rewarded with one of the most stunning views in the Albanian Alps over Valbona valley on one side and Theth valley on the other side. Afterwards we will retrace our way back to Valbona.

Day 16: The Albanian Fjords

The Albanian Fjords

After breakfast we will drive to the small town of Fierza then switch to a ferry and start sailing across Komani Lake and its beautiful fjords. We will also stop by the stunning Shala River, one of Albania’s hidden gems then continue to the town of Koman where we will be transported to Shkodra, have lunch then drive to Tirana where our epic journey concludes.

Day 17: Departure

Departure

Spend the day exploring the historical capital of Albania then transfer to the airport for our final departure.
