Our trek to Uhuru Peak is via Machame route as one of the most popular & scenic routes on Mt Kilimanjaro with 7 days on the mountain for better acclimatization which ensures a higher success rate on reaching the summit. The trek do not require any technical skills or special equipment just a good fitness level and great determination.

Itinerary & Trip Details

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Arrival in Moshi

Arrival in Kilimanjaro international airport, pickup and transfer to our hotel in Moshi.

Accommodation: Standard Hotel

Day 2: Trek from Machame Gate (1,790m) to Machame Camp (3,010m)

After breakfast we will leave Moshi and drive to Machame gate where we are going to meet our guides and porters, pack our equipment and supplies then start our ascent to summit Africa’s highest peak. We start the trail by entering the rainforest and trek gradually uphill while enjoying the surrounding nature until we reach our campsite at Machame Camp.

Day 3: Trek to Shira Camp (3,845m)

We resume our ascent by climbing to the top of the forest then enter the moorland zone, known for its beautiful alpine flowers and volcanic rocks. Afterwards we climb on a rocky ridge that will lead us into Shira Plateau where we will have amazing views of Kibo peak and then make our way to our second camping site at Shira Camp.

Day 4: Trek to Lava tower (4,640m) then to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Today will take us into a semi-desert landscape as we get closer to the lava tower. The trek is going to be more strenuous as it gets steeper as we go uphill until we reach the lava tower at an altitude of 4,640m above sea level then descend to our campsite at Barranco Valley at 3,960m which is very good for the acclimatization process, climb high, sleep low.

Day 5: Trek to Karanga Camp (4,000m) (Acclimatization stop)

Today is a short trekking day from Barranco valley to Karanga valley for better acclimatization. We start by a steep exit up the Great Barranco Wall then the trail continues down into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley, finally we have another climb up to Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Trek to Barafu Camp (4,665m)

We continue our ascent by trekking up out of Karanga valley and into the dry landscape until we reach Barafu camp. Amazing views of the summit is visible from all sides from Barafu Camp.

Day 7: Trek to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) then to Mweka camp (3,100m)

A big day ahead of us today. We will start our climb right after midnight to make our way to the summit, first we trek between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers then head in a north-westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point (5,735m) on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. From Stella Point, we will rewarded with an unforgettable sunrise from the roof of Africa. Afterwards (weather permitting) we will head to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African continent at 5,895m above sea level. Our trek continues as we descend back to Barafu camp then continue to Mweka camp for a well deserved rest.

Day 8: Trek to Mweka Gate (1,645m)/Drive to Moshi

Continue our descent through the rainforest to Mweka gate, where successful climbers will get their summit certificate. Afterwards we drive to our hotel in Moshi.
